Professionnal Background

Major-General (Retired) Nicolas Eldaoud served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 35 years. During his career, he was deployed to Croatia, to the Iraq–Kuwait border, and in 2007 he participated in the joint task force in Afghanistan as Commander of the National Support Element.

In Canada, he held several key appointments, including Commanding Officer of the 5th Service Battalion in Valcartier, Commander of the 202 Workshop Depot in Montréal, and, following his promotion to Brigadier-General, Commander of the 5th Canadian Division.

During his postings at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa, he served as Director of Armament Support Program Management, responsible for the sustainment of armoured vehicles and artillery systems, as well as Director of Combat Service Support for the Canadian Army. As a general officer, he successively held the positions of Chief of Staff Operations for Military Personnel Command and Chief of Staff Strategic. In this latter role, he established the framework for a large-scale national initiative, namely a new vision for the modern and adaptive management of military personnel.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, a master’s degree in defence studies, and a master’s degree in security policy and management.
