Marc Poulin is a high-level manager in the Canadian food industry. Over the past 19 years at Sobeys/IGA, he has successively held the positions of Vice-President, Procurement and Merchandising, Executive Vice-President and Assistant General Manager (Québec), President of Québec Operations and, from 2012 to 2016, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the corporate group. Under his leadership, Sobeys has consolidated its position as the second largest food distributor/retailer in Canada with annual sales topping $24 billion. Among others, he led the acquisition of Canada Safeway and oversaw the management of Empire Canada Limited, the group’s real estate branch. In Québec, from 2000 to 2001, he helped IGA to increase its market share from 13.5 to 21.3%, to become the top grocery brand in the province. At the operations level, he spearheaded acquisitions, concentrating his efforts on cutting costs, increasing productivity, and improving the customer experience. Before joining Sobeys, Marc served as Vice-President at both Groupe Vie Desjardins-Laurentienne and Culinar. Finally, from 1985 to 1994, he held key positions at Lever Brothers in Toronto and at Provigo Distribution. Marc is a member of the board of directors of the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation and of Richelieu Hardware (TSX: RCH). Marc has a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science from Université Laval and an MBA from Northwestern University, in Evanston, Illinois.
